July 19: Farewell Reception for Yale World Fellows

It brought the Club great pleasure to bring fellow Yalies together to bid farwell to Penny Low and Huzir Sulaiman before they head off to Yale under Yale’s World Fellowship programme. We were most honoured to have them with us. The farewell reception was attended by 30 Yalies and kindly sponsored by Club Vice President Devin Kimble at his latest Brewekz outlet at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Started five years ago, the World Fellowship programme selects 18 highly accomplished mid-career men and women from government, business, media, and civil society organisations worldwide for a four-month leadership programme. For those not in the know, Penny was Singapore’s youngest female Member of Parliament as well as founder of the Social Innovation Park, which promotes social entrepreneurship in Singapore. She is also the first Singaporean to be selected for the programme. Huzir is joint-artistic director of the Checkpoint Theatre and is well-known for satirical plays that have been staged in many global cities. Both Penny and Huzir have been selected out of a list of 970 applicants.

In addition, the Exco took the opportunity to share with our Members the Club’s state of affairs and vision. The Exco put forth a value proposition for members to support us through voluntary annual dues or a one-time life-time membership donation.  See Value Proposition Letter.

Many thanks to those who attended the event. We managed to raise about S$2,187 for the club, which will go to underwrite some of our larger planned events (e.g. Yale Club of HK visit to Singapore for the Standard Chartered run), cover the administrative costs and help support some of the charitable causes we would like to explore in the future.
